Another beautiful day for baseball as the Creston Regulators and fans (the kranks) traveled south to Somonauk for two games with the Somonauk Blue Stockings and Downers Grove Plow Boys. After leaving church later then planned, the game was already underway when I arrived with Creston up 3 to 1.Somonauk brought it within 1 with a two run home run in the 5th inning after a couple innings of 3 up and 3 down.Creston wasted no time answering with 2 runs scored in the 6th inning and went on to a victory in the first seven inning game of the day.
The 2nd game was between Somonauk and Downers Grove with Somonauk the winner with a final score of 4 to 3 in the seven inning game.John Erickson filled in as umpire for the game as the Somonauk umpire had a previous engagement to go to and left with a couple innings of the first game, although John was sitting down on the job.
The final game of the round robin afternoon was between Creston and Downers Grove. At the beginning of each game, a coin toss is held to decide who bats or takes the field firstFor the 3rd time this season; the Professor is 0/3 on the coin toss. But that was not going to stop the Creston Regulators as the enjoyed another good game of good baseball and fun. This game featured the first double play of the season in the 2nd inning. Not to close the record books yet, a second double play came in the 3rd inning.Creston went on to win their second game of the day and 3rd of the season 9 to 0. Downers Grove had a chance to score several runs with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 4th and 2 aces (outs).Unfortunately, the last striker (batter) was caught out on a fly ball, one bounce rule, to retire the inning.
